One way to prevent the sign of aging in our hands is to use a moisturizer whenever the moisture is stripped out from the skin. The Watsons +Q10 Collagen Hand Cream does it purpose of removing the dryness especially from frequent hand washing. It contains anti-ageing Q10, Vitamin E and Shea butter.

When buying a hand cream, it defeats the purpose when it feels like a body lotion. So far, you will recognize the difference if you use this Watsons cream over a regular lotion. I don’t reapply so it means that hand cream is doing its job.

Scent

Scent is quite similar to Jergens in a good old way. It’s a safe scent. There are different variants of Watsons hand cream in other blog reviews, but we only have the Collagen Q10 in the Watsons branch in our province. The scent doesn’t stay long but I don’t mind.

Packaging

The tube is made of a very soft plastic. The size is standard and it contains 80 grams lotion. It fit well in a handbag but it's big for a purse. This is the office kind of hand cream to display in front of your cubicle. At first, the color is quite intimidating and plain. It’s as if it wants to attract older and sophisticated people. The gold color seems to suggest a very strong result.

Learn About Collagen and Q10

Q10 is a vitamin and antioxidant found in wide array of foods and produced naturally by our body. It is also known as Coenzyme Q10, CoQ10 or vitamin Q. Every cell in our body uses it for energy construction, turnover and rejuvenation. The continual renewal of cells delays aging and protects the skin from sun damage and free radical making the skin appears more youthful. Also, the nutrients are transported and toxins are removed better. Since the ability of our body to produce Q10 declines as we age, Q10 supplements exist. It seems that the benefit of Q10 happens more inside our body. Only little information is available on how it could help the skin when topically applied.

Collagen, on the other hand, is the most abundant protein found in our tissues. In primeval age, it served as an early form of glue and was obtained through boiling the skin and bones of animals. Collagen benefits the skin in many ways. It can improve the texture of the skin but it depends upon the nature of the product. It can be injected as fillers for wrinkles and other facial lines. It is also used in burn or wound dressing, treatment for osteoarthritis and cosmetic surgery.

The natural collagen in our body makes our skin moisturized and elastic. However, collagen in lotions only moisturizes and doesn’t increase the level of collagen on the skin. It cannot deeply penetrate the skin but there are other ways to stimulate the body to produce more collagen.

From its price, I don’t expect magic. And even if you buy a high end hand cream, it will be too expensive with only small difference. There are a lot of factors that contributes in the aging of our skin and a hand cream alone is not a solution. I’m not against Collagen as an ingredient of hand creams and the beliefs of other that it doesn’t really penetrate the skin because who knows, what we believe to be true now could change in the future.

If you really wanted the full potential of Collagen, you better incorporate it internally too and search for other ways for our body to produce and utilize collagen well. In my perspective, Collagen is just a mild ingredient that needs frequent application to maintain its effect. In the end, it’s up to us to take good care of our body to delay the signs of aging.
